二觉

(二覺, 二觉)

The two enlightenments:

(1) The [lang id =1028]起信論 has two--(a) [lang id =1028]本覺 the immanent mind in all things, e.g. "which lighteth every man that cometh into the world", also defined as the [lang id =1028]法身 dharmakāya; (b) [lang id =1028]始覺 initial enlightenment or beginning of illumination; this initiation leads on to Buddhahood, or full enlightenment.

(2) (a) [lang id =1028]等覺 The fifty-first stage of a bodhisattva's [lang id =1028]行 [lang id =1028]位 practice; (b) [lang id =1028]妙覺 the fifty-second stage, or enlightenment of Buddhahood.

(3) (a)[lang id =1028]自覺 A Buddha's own or natural enlightenment; (b) [lang id =1028]覺他 his enlightening of all others.
